Small Story 566.

 Small Story 566.

Music Encounter

The trio—Sonia, Smitha, and Sneha—had been close friends for more than a decade. They made it a point to meet and celebrate all important occasions together.

One morning, Smitha returned from the gym and uploaded a two-minute video on social media. Just then, Sonia called her with excitement.

“Hey, good news! This evening at our favorite restaurant, a singer will perform old Kannada and Hindi songs for one and a half hours. There’s no entry fee—we only have to pay for the food. We can sit, eat, and enjoy. It’s a new concept! My friends have already been there and were thrilled. The program happens three days a week at this restaurant and on other days in different places. Sneha is coming—you should come too!”

“Sure,” said Smitha. “Luckily, I’ll be free this evening. I’ll be there by 7:45 PM.”

That evening, the trio gathered at the restaurant and were surprised to see around 75 people already seated. At exactly 8 PM, the performance began with an old song of Dr. Rajkumar. As they relished a variety of snacks, the friends enjoyed one and a half hours of nostalgic Kannada and Hindi melodies.

After the program, the trio stepped out and began their short ten-minute walk back to their apartment, where all three lived.

Sonia whispered, “Do you know? The singer is neither from Karnataka nor Mumbai—he’s from Madurai.”

The others were shocked. “Really?”

They had always thought people from the South were conservative about learning other languages. But they deeply admired the singer, Tirunavukarasu, for his amazing voice and flawless pronunciation.

It was truly a magical evening for the trio.
