K Ragavan writes with reference to ‘To serve, with love’ that Bengalureans from diverse backgrounds have come together to render a real humanitarian service to the disadvantaged. Their effort is laudable. Such Good Samaritans are very much needed in this society. Apart from cooking and serving, some are getting food from outside, which shows their real interest to in giving people what they need. This story highlights not only a city’s needs but also a human’s needs

Here are some suggestions and views that our readers have expressed       @write2ragavan  One day survey in the City on various locations of air survey was nice. Bengalureans should be careful when they inhale outside. The authorities must act on this issue to prevent people prone for lung and heart diseases. Pollution due to more vehicles also causing this

Letter Published in The National UAE on 29April 19  Iraqi soldier’s body is found: his family relieved but sad
I write to you in reference to Mina Aldroubi’s article Iraqi soldier’s remains, missing for decades, found after flash floods (April 25).
Mina Aldroubi’s article was a moving read.
Decades back, Iraqi soldier Abdul Amir Al Jadri went missing as he was fighting for his country during the Iraq-Iran war. He is one of many Iraqi soldiers whose remains are yet to be found, but his family never stopped looking for him.
Mr Al Jadri’s wife and his son were confident that one day, they will find their beloved father and husband’s body and now, their decades-long search has finally come to an end.
On the one hand, Mr Al Jadri’s family must be relieved, and happy that his remains will finally have a decent burial. But on the other hand, I can only imagine how sorrowful it must feel, to be reminded of a loved one’s tragic death.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 28April 19 Religion is a personal affair, not a tool to win elections  Politics is an uncertain business and luck plays a big role. At Narendra Modi’s recent rally in Varanasi, tens of thousands of supporters turned out to hear him speak. And yet, this is a tough time for Mr Modi. While his well-wishers are confident he will overcome the hurdle and win this election, we will have to wait and see what the Indian people decide.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

Letter Published in BM on 26April 19.Without paying wages, BBMP wants to get work done
On the story Rain of terror K Ragavan writes it is sad to know that the tree cutting contractors have not been paid. Bengaluru had many trees and several were chopped for road expansion and Metro construction. Workers were not paid their wages. How auditors were allowing payment to be pending for more than two years? And on top of that now as many old trees are posing a threat on roads, they need immediate attention. How can the civic body deploy workers if they have not paid the pending wages?

I write in reference to your article UAE government raises teacher salaries as it launches hiring drive in India (April 24). Daniel Sanderson’s article on the new policy of recruiting Indian teachers was good to read. The UAE’s intention of raising salaries for teachers is very welcome. Today, education is one of the most important sectors in the economy and teachers are vital to creating the leaders of the future. Educators with highly technical skills should be remunerated with good salaries. You have to pay for quality. Kudos to the UAE.

In addition to Sri Lankan nationals, these callous and bloodthirsty attacks also killed a number of foreign nationals, chiefly tourists. The entire world is now united behind Sri Lanka, following its deadliest terrorist incident in years.Sri Lanka is known for its beautiful landscapes, hills, temples, monuments and famous tourist destinations. Today, it is a country in mourning. Causalities are still rising and many people are fighting for their lives in overburdened hospitals. It is high time the international community woke up and joined together to eradicate the menace of terrorism.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

I write to you in reference to your article Indian man cuts off finger after accidentally voting for Modi’s party y (April 19). This article by The National was a pretty unusual read. I am conflicted about this story. Pawan Kumar was confused at the polls, and mistakenly cast his vote for the BJP. In anger, he cut off his finger. On the one hand I applaud the importance he placed on voting. On the other, people can make mistakes, and it is senseless to punish yourself so harshly for a silly error.

The decision to build a temple in the UAE capital was made after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the UAE in 2015. It speaks volumes about the bond and relationship between the UAE and India and the rapport the Indian PM shares with the leadership of the UAE. The ties between the two countries are getting stronger. Moreover, the construction of the temple further strengthens the image of the UAE as a tolerant nation. Kudos to the emirates.-K. K Ragavan writes Bengaluru isn’t ready for rains (Moansoon). Your cover story explains that the city is not prepared for even summer rain, then in monsoon it will have to face a lot of hurdles. And ironical that it is people dumping garbage on roads that is causing one of the problems. The city should have prepared when there is no rain. It is commendable that traffic police helped out when sewage was overflowing in KR Puram area

I write to you in reference to Ramola Talwar Badam’s article Everything we know about the UAE’s first traditional Hindu temple (April 19).
The stone-laying ceremony of the UAE’s first Hindu temple was a true testament to the enduring relations between the UAE and India.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always had a good rapport with UAE leaders and friendly relations between the two peoples go back centuries.
Indian residents in the UAE have been longing for a traditional Hindu temple where they can practise their faith when they are away from home and this wish is now finally going to be fulfilled.

Letter Published in Gulf News UAE on 21April 19 Don’t forget the middle classes
This is in reference to the recent election manifesto presented by the Bharatiya Janata Party for the elections. Personally, I am unsure of what to make of the BJP’s latest move. On one hand, I am happy that the ruling government has addressed major Indian problems such as national security, the living conditions of farmers and plans to implement welfare programs, but on the other hand the middle class has been clearly neglected during this campaign. Non-pensioner’s deposit rates continues to rise and life is harder for us now. As a non-pensioner myself, I suffer from rampant inflation and a higher cost of living. Even earlier, non-pensioners are neglected. This is a delicate issue the new government should address without further delay. I do hope the BJP will give more thought to this point in the future.

I write to you in reference to Vishwas Kulkarni’s article When movie stars become politicians – Bollywood’s tryst with the Indian election (April 16). Not only has Bollywood dominated Indian politics for decades, I believe the same can be said about Hollywood’s influence in the US. Today, politics attracts more and more professionals that seek fame and money, which explains why actors and politicians have so much in common.
In recent history, Bihar’s popular actor-turned-politician Shot Gun Shatrughan Sinha left his old party, the BJP, after three decades, and joined Congress. The whole affair is just like the plot of a movie.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 16April 19 Lebanon is taking a first step towards a better tomorrowI write to you in reference to The National’s editorial Power in the wrong hands can corrupt (April 15).This article shed light on an issue that often goes underreported.I was baffled to hear that after decades of power cuts and poor access to electricity, Lebanese politicians have yet to come up with a solution for their people, who suffer power cuts of up to 20 hours a day.It is simply unfair that Lebanese residents must pay two electricity bills, one for privately generated energy and one for the energy provided by the government, yet still lack full coverage. This is unheard of almost anywhere else in the world.Lebanese energy minister Nada Boustani has promised her plan will put an end to this endemic problem in a very short space of time. Letter Published in Gulf News UAE on 14April 19  Does Congress have a chance?
This is with reference to the world’s largest democracy, India and the general elections that are taking place (“Watch: Who will be the next prime minister of India? What astrologers have to say”, Gulf News, April 11). As per my observation, out of 15 elections, the Congress party has won and formed the government 10 times. However, despite this, they have been unsuccessful in solving the problem of unemployment, poverty, and other issues of the common man. You cannot expect a miracle from the Narendra Modi government. Despite their short time in office, they have managed to solve issues of national security. Experts and analysts are under the opinion that Modi should be given one more chance to fulfil his left out promises. I think it is quite logical. If the Congress would have fulfilled the unemployment problem in their 10-year tenure, things would be better. Nepotism, and corruption was the reason why the Congress was eliminated. Ultimately, it is up to the people to select their administration.

The good-old famous residential location is fast loosing it’s charm because of the narrowing roads. The 80 feet Road has been encroached by many elements and it has made life difficult for the residents of the area. BBMP should identify the encroachers and put heavy fines. Letter Published in The National UAE on 9April 19 The people of Libya deserve peace and better leadershipI write to you in reference to your editorial Libya crisis speaks to the failures of Western intervention(April 8). This elaborate piece on the ongoing Libyan crisis was an excellent read. The famously oil-rich nation was dominated by dictator Muammar Qaddafi, for 40 years, much to the disappointment of the international community. But the fact that Libya’s problems have not gone away, years after Qaddafi’s fall, is sad. Despite western intervention in 2011, Libya’s challenges have gone unmet. Libya should be rebuilt and internal conflict should be eradicated. Only then can the nation move on.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

Letter Published  in The National UAE on 8April 19 Narendra Modi should be given another chanceI write in reference to your article Indian elections 2019: schedule, polls, dates and everything you need to know about the vote (April 5). Your explainer on the upcoming Indian Lok Sabha elections was comprehensive. As you rightly noted, the Congress party has won 10 of the past 15 Indian elections. But despite spending so much time in power, Rahul Gandhi’s party has been unable to solve India’s biggest problems, including unemployment, low farmer wages and large-scale poverty. You cannot expect a miracle from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after just one term in office.Nevertheless, Mr Modi’s administration has made progress in a variety of areas, including national security, reforming the banking system to make it easier to engage with digitally. Many experts feel that Mr Modi should be given one more chance to fulfill his weighty 2014 election promises. I happen to agree. Ultimately it is up to the Indian people to choose an administration that suits them. The ball is in the people’s court. I hope they choose wisely.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

With the introduction of canine squads for patrolling, the police department's strength will be enhanced. Globally, canine assistance has been widely popular. This is a very good move by the police department.

Letter published in The National UAE on 4April 19 LSocial media must not hinder Indian elections
I write to you in reference to Charles Capel’s article Facebook removes partisan Indian social media operations before elections (April 3). Facebook removed many pages from its platform that have been linked to the spread of fake news ahead of the Indian general election. Many of those pages appear to be affiliated with Indian political parties, but some are actually run from within Pakistan. This discourse is designed to intensify tensions on both sides of the border, especially in the wake of the recent Pulwama terror attacks.
We must not allow tensions to escalate further. I hope that the elections will be smooth and peaceful.

Letter Published in BM (Bangalore Mirror)on 3April 19 Good addition to the police force
With reference to the story ‘Agent Rana will keep Bengaluru safe’, K Ragavan writes the story elaborately explains the new expansion plan for the police force for night patrolling. The two new Belgian Malinois are a good addition for the force. Rana and Nidhi will safeguard the interest of City’s Cubbon Park and avert thefts. Belgian dogs have earlier proved their effectiveness in service and this pair will provide the city police with a boost

Letter Published in The National UAE on 3April 19New sponsorship rules will improve people’s lives
I refer to your editorial New sponsorship rules will create a dynamic nation (April 2). The UAE has largely benefited from its growing expatriate population over the years and today the UAE government is giving back to them. The new sponsorship rules for expatriate family members shows the UAE’s clear intention to welcome foreign nationals and their families, provided they have the means to support them. This is a much needed reform that will have a positive impact on people’s lives.
