To lose a mother can be devastating. I realised this last week when I lost my mother due to old age. I am now consoling myself that at least I was able to spend a few years after my retirement with my mother. As W. D. Howells wrote, “A man never sees all that his mother has been to him until it is too late to let her know that he sees it.”
