Small Story 449.
Small Story 449
The Lighting Tradition
Harish was about to start for his morning walk when his wife Padmaja whispered, “Dear, don’t forget to send money to my sister-in-law and to your sister Suma for today’s Karthikai festival. You’ve been doing it for decades.”
Harish smiled. “I won’t forget. Suma is my only sister, and it was my mother’s wish that I send her an amount every year on this occasion.”
After Harish left, Padmaja called her daughter in the US. “Hey Sujatha, how are you? Don’t forget to send money to your sister-in-law. Ask your husband Prasanth to send it.”
“I won’t forget, Mummy. Ever since I got married, I remind Prasanth every year, and he always sends it,” Sujatha replied.
Padmaja felt happy that Sujatha was following in her footsteps, as her Hubby Harish sent to Suma
After finishing his walk, Harish went to see his friend Suresh.
By evening, the house was full of lamps and brightness.
Traditions like these are the true treasures of our culture, lovingly maintained for decades.
