• Hazare's arrest With reference to the article, ‘Indian anti -graft activist refuses to leave jail’ (KT/Aug 17) I must say that the large scale protests following the arrest of the social activist Anna Hazare yesterday was never expected by the Singh administration. It was seen that school children, students, I.T professionals, women and even retired people were shouting slogans against the government for not tackling corruption and inflation.

The miscalculation by the UPA government has ruined their image for the common man. This is the second revolution in Indian history after the freedom fight by the Late Mahatma Gandhi. You can fool people once or twice but not permanently.

The main attributing reasons for the support from the people is the lack of electricity, inflation, poor infrastructure and above all corruption. The 72 year old Anna’s statement that unless and until his protest is not recognised by the government he will continue his agitation is to be applauded.
