Govt should drop tree-chopping plan
An NHAI project that looks to build an alternative route connecting Mangaluru with Chitradurga will spell doom for an estimated 50,000 trees in the Western Ghats. The cover-page article was meaningful and thought-provoking, given the fact that the Cauvery crisis has come back to the fore. This move will leave many farmers homeless. The massive felling of trees will lead to water shortage and the Karnataka government should re-think about such projects, says K Ragavan
