I am not surprised to learn that the UAE’s donation to the world’s refugees last year amounted to Dh2.6 billion (UAE gives Dh2.6bn aid to refugees, June 21). That is because helping the poor and the needy is part of the UAE’s culture, so much so that it stands out prominently among other countries in the world. It all started at the time of Sheikh Zayed. This is something remarkable.
