Small Story 478.

Small Story 478. “The Last Day Card Mystery” Ramiah came to the Big Mall to buy sweets for his grandchildren, as tomorrow was New Year. He had retired from the Cooperative Department and was living happily in his small house built on a 30×40 site twelve years ago in the Banashankari area. His only daughter, Sumitra, who lived in London, had arrived last week with her two sons to celebrate the festival with her parents, Ramiah and Janaki. Ramiah had a habit of using his credit card for purchases. By collecting reward points, he would later buy useful items and donate them to deserving people. That day, he bought a large quantity of items—cakes, chocolates, and especially Mysore Pak, his grandchildren’s favorite. When he reached the billing counter and handed over his credit card, the salesman examined it and said, “Sir, this card is valid only today. I’m not sure it will work.” Ramiah whispered confidently, “I know, my friend. Today is the last day. If it doesn’t work, I’ll pay cash.” The salesman swiped the card. The transaction was approved. “Till 12 midnight it will work,” Ramiah smiled and nodded. After finishing his shopping, he took an auto and returned home. When Sumitra heard the story, she laughed and said, “Dad, how can you be so confident?” Ramiah my dear daughter our banking system is superb and I know it will work till12Pm K.Ragavan 2-1-26
