Small Story 479.
Small Story 479:
Dual Hesitation
Shyam received more than a hundred calls from friends wishing him a Happy New Year. Yet, he kept checking his phone, hoping for one particular call—from Nisha.
Nisha was his colleague who had joined his team a year ago. Shyam admired her intelligence, beauty, and confident presentations. He lived in JP Nagar, while Nisha stayed in HSR Layout. Though many wishes poured in, there was no call from her. Sometimes, we imagine that the person we admire feels the same way, even when we are unsure.
That morning, Nisha came a little late to the office and wished her team leader, Shyam, a belated Happy New Year. Shyam returned the wish. She was wearing a green saree and looked elegant and smart. Shyam felt a strong urge to tell her that he wanted to marry her—but hesitation held him back.
Meanwhile, Nisha received a phone call asking if she was available in the office. About half an hour later, a smart young man arrived and asked for her. Shyam directed him to Nisha’s desk.
Nisha introduced him to Shyam.
“This is Chander, a good friend. He’s leaving for the US tomorrow. He came to thank me for returning his wallet that he had lost in the mall.”
Shyam’s heart sank.
The next day, Nisha shared some news with Shyam. Her parents were interested in proposing an alliance—for him.
Shyam was overwhelmed with happiness and silently thanked his luck.
What he didn’t know was that Nisha, too, had a crush on him. She had been hesitating to tell him—until yesterday.
