Small Story 483.
Small Story 483 An Amazing Passion
Swamy received a call from Mahesh, his friend from the walking group.
“Hey Swamy, tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. we have arranged a small get-together at our favorite restaurant. Madhav will also narrate an experience we have all been eager to hear,” said Mahesh.
“Fine, Mahesh. I will certainly attend,” replied Swamy happily.
The next day, exactly at 11 a.m., Swamy arrived at the restaurant. He was delighted to see all twenty friends gathered, eagerly waiting to hear Madhav speak. After light refreshments, Mahesh invited Madhav to share his experience.
Madhav began his speech:
“Dear friends, I met all of you during the COVID period, and even today I admire your friendly nature and hospitality. Though I have been part of this group for five years and many of you know my profession, my other passion may not be known to everyone.
My passion is attending free medical camps organized by NGOs. Wherever such camps are conducted, I volunteer for two hours on the last Sunday of every month, usually in rural areas or government schools, to help treat poor people. Many senior and elite doctors from various specialties attend these camps, and patients of all kinds are treated completely free of cost.
I started this service when I was working in Madurai, and I continue it even now. Since I know people in major pharmaceutical companies, they donate free medical samples every month. I have been happily doing this service for more than a decade, even after my retirement. This passion began during the Sivananda Medical Camp days in Madurai and has continued ever since.
Some of you saw photos from our recent camp and wanted to know more about my passion. This service gives true meaning to my retirement.”
All the members applauded Madhav for his noble monthly service. Everyone left the gathering with greater happiness, inspired by Madhav’s passion and dedication.
