Small Story 505.

Small Story 505 Going with the Wind Ramaseshan, a retired Colonel, was surprised to see his sister Amritha at the mall with her son Rajesh. As per her messages and calls, Amritha was supposed to be in the US with her son until last week. Even more surprising was the fact that she hadn’t informed him about her arrival. Usually, whenever she returned from abroad, Ramaseshan would personally go to the airport to receive her. Seeing his puzzled expression, Amritha smiled and said, “Sorry, Anna. I didn’t want to disturb you by coming to the airport.” Rajesh then added excitedly, “Uncle, I bought my favorite car—a new Kia Seltos—two days back. I wanted to surprise you this afternoon.” Ramaseshan smiled warmly. “Congratulations, Rajesh. Excellent choice. How is your work?” “Fine, Uncle. I’m going to Germany next week for a symposium,” Rajesh replied. Rajesh was an automobile engineer with many credentials and was currently working with BMW. After spending about an hour together, they left. Before leaving, Amritha told Ramaseshan that they would come to his house sharp at 6 p.m. That evening, Amritha arrived with her husband Ramesh and Rajesh. They brought three boxes filled with Ramaseshan’s favorite sweets and several other gifts. Touched by their affection, Ramaseshan thanked his sister and also asked lovingly about her daughter Roopa, who was in the US. After dinner, Amritha spoke hesitantly. “Anna, I was happy to meet you in the mall this morning. But honestly, my mind was disturbed. Only after my husband’s practical words did I feel calmer. Now I’ll come straight to the point.” She paused and continued, “Rajesh is in love with a German lady and wants to marry her. I was very upset yesterday—that’s why I didn’t inform you about my arrival. But today I realized something important. When two hearts truly come together, nationality and other differences should not become barriers.” Ramaseshan listened carefully, his face calm and thoughtful. Then he smiled with pride. “I’m happy you’ve understood this, Amritha. In today’s world, we must move with the wind, not against it.” Ramesh nodded in agreement. “Well said, Ramaseshan.” Acceptance filled the room, stronger than doubt, binding the family closer than ever.
