Banking on luckArticle published in Gulftoday on 4 oct.08.
After the recent ATM pin code scandal many of my friends have changed their code for safety. The reason is that hard-earned money should not be taken away by fraudsters. That they want to safeguard their money to beat the galloping inflation is quite logical. Afriend asked wheather Ihadchangedmy pin code.I replied in the negative. He wanted to know why.I had a reason. What is the guarantee that the new pin number may not be visible for the fraudsters.?Ultimately one has to accept his/her luck. The solution Banks should be more vigilant.

Water woes in Sharjah
I live in Al Arouba Street in the Rolla area of Sharjah near a popular restaurant. In front of our building, there are always pools of stagnant water, because of leaks from the opposite building.

This stagnant water has been ruining our environment for nearly one month now.

If you try and walk anywhere, you have to jump over pools of dirty water, and when rain falls, the whole road fills up. Stagnant water is a health hazard and this needs to be dealt with. I request that the concerned authorities look into this matter and deal with it as quickly as possible.

Free Parking
30 September 2008

This is with reference to the news item in the issue of September 28 titled ‘Parking free in Dubai’.

It is a welcome gesture for the residents of Dubai from the Road Transport Authority (RTA).

I suggest that such a gesture should also be undertaken in other Emirates, as well.

Small things,Article published in Gulf today on 27.Sep.08.Uae.
Big difference.
I always tell friends that if things go smoothly everyday I will be happy. A friend jovially commented that I am happy with petty things .Recently weboth decided to meet another acquaintance in Sharjah .The three of us had a long discussion and in the evening decided to go to a mall. After spending time in the mall, we came out and started waiting for a taxi. For the first one hour, none of the taxis passing by stopped. We decided to move to king faisal street, where the newly introduced 14 number bus passesby.
We walked to the bus stand and waited for the bus nearly half an hour. Two buses rolled on,but to full capacity.Again,we looked out for ataxi, but in vain.At last ,we decided
To walk to our destination. After more than an hour we reached home. Small things make a big difference. If we would have hired a taxi immediately,I would have indeed been happy.Do you realise that?I asked my friend. He apologized for his comment.

Grooming leaders

THE COVER story by Pratibha Umashankar about young Arab Leaders was interesting. The CEO of YAL, Assem O. Kabesh’s ambitious plans for young Arab men and women are laudable. Young Arabs are the future of the Arab world. YAL provides them with the necessary vision. Leaders are born, but are made good visionaries by mentors like Kabesh. It was a good and useful article and could be applied to all nationalities.

Bitter experienceLetter Published inGulf news on 14.Sep.08.uae.
Recently, I had a bitter experience in Dubai when waiting for a taxi. As there was a long queue for the bus, I opted for a taxi, but had to wait for more than an hour to hail one to go to Sharjah. I was surprised to find that even though three taxis passed by, none were willing to take me. I requested a driver to at least drop me off to a certain point, but he did not listen. Despite continuous warnings from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), none of the drivers seem to be bothered. I urge the authorities to look into the matter.

Ups and downs Article Published in Gulf to day on 13,Sep.08.Ua.e.A Friend had invited me and ana a few others for dinner.e had not revealed what was the occassion. We discussed various topics and finally the subject turned to visa.He said during the previous years,he had sponsored his sister and brother-in-law from india. This year,he could not do so because of the increased charges for visa sponsorship. While we were admiring the country’s tremandus growth in all aspec, particularly tourism. We were sad that quite few of us are unable to getour near and dear ones to see this wonderful country because of high visit visa charges.Any way,the reason Iam giving this party is a hike in my salary.declared my friend. Why were you then cribbing about increase invisa charges.?Questioned a friend jovially.
