Sudan has enough problems
It was so sad to read about the plane that burst into flames after landing at Khartoum airport in Sudan on Tuesday night on The National’s website yesterday. Despite advanced technology in the aviation industry, there have been several air accidents recently.
Poor visibility can lead to tragedies and authorities should take more notice of weather forecasts. I pray for the victims and their families.

Good stories
I have been watching the tremendous growth of the Indian film industry for the past Forty years. Earlier black and white movies used to grab the attention of the audience. Indian films are popular in the world. Millions of rupees are spent on the production of movies. The most important thing in movies is the story. Film maker should rather concentrate on good stories.

Visit visa fee hike
THE announcement of four new types of visit visas(Khaleejtimes ,june9,2008) was a shocking news for the expatriates. At present, visit visa for three months, including renewal fees, costs Dh600.which the new rule, one has to pay an additionalDh400,which is toomuch.
I request the authorities to consider retaining the oldfees for visit visas to bring parents and close relatives in to the country.Already, the peopleare reeling under highcost of living which has hit the familybudget hard.

Visa fee increase.
Expatriates were shocked by the Government’s decision to increase visitor visa fees.Iappreciate that the Government Must do some thing, but families through outthe countrywill suffer.Perhaps the Government will consider exemptions for immediate familyand in particular ,parents. Many here are already facing economic hard ship, this will only add to their burden.

Image in jeopardy
I was upset by Gulf News’s report that Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif was detained at Dubai Airport for the possession of drugs (”Asif’s career could be over if found guilty by WADA”, Gulf News, June 5). I am an admirer of the fast bowler. Asif is a popular sportsman, but he is jeopardising his career and image through such incidents.
We have watched many sports personalities over the years, who have been arrested for carrying illegal narcotics. There are many other ways to be inspired and stimulated. Why take drugs?

Sharjah toilet facility
5 June 2008
IN SHARJAH, near the Saudi mosque, the toilet is not maintained properly and most of the tourists visiting the mosque cannot use the facility. Since this is a very important place and also given that Sharjah is a key cultural emirate of the UAE, I request the concerned authorities to look into this matter.

Traffic lights missing in Sharjah

» Have your say
Traffic on the Al Mina Road in Sharjah has increased, and crossing the road to get to the bus terminal takes five to seven minutes. Motorists drive too fast and no courtesy is shown in giving way.
Therefore, there is a need for traffic lights near the bridge near the Dnata office, which would ease the crossing of pedestrians. Similarly the intersection near the old Al Majerah souk on the way to Ajman Creek Road needs a signal.
Many people walk in the morning to work and they find it difficult to cross the road because of heavy traffic.
I request that the concerned authorities look into the matter.
