Praise for brave bus driver
This is with reference to the Pakistani bus driver Mohammed Khalil who was honoured in a ceremonial function in Sri Lanka. During the March 3 terrorist attack, Khalil saved the Sri Lankan cricket team by his quick decisions and presence of mind.

I applaud the decision of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board to honour this bold young man of Pakistan. This indicates that sports bring a close affinity irrespective of caste and nationality. Kudos to Mohammed Khalil.

Unfortunate Incident9 April 2009

The news, ‘Footwear Flung at Another Famous Face’ (KT, April was disappointing. This is the second time that such an incident is happening. The reaction was mainly due to anger and frustration. However, the Sikh journalist was pardoned.

The fact that no action was taken against him by the Minister shows his magnanimity. In a democratic concept, anything can happen at
any time.

Sports, the Equaliser

8 April 2009

The news that Mohammed Khalil, the Pakistani bus driver, was honoured at a ceremonial function in Sri Lanka made for an interesting read. In the March 3 terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricketers, it was the presence of mind and quick action of the
driver that saved the Sri Lankan team.

I applaud the Sri Lankan captain, Kumar Sangakkara and the Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s decision to
honour this bold, young
man of Pakistan.
This shows that sports can bring people together, irrespective of caste and nationality. Kudos to Mohammed Khalil.

Taxi Fare

5 April 2009

This is with reference to the minimum taxi fare imposed by the Roads and Transport Authority. Ten dirhams is really a higher side. The authorities concerned should revive this minimum fare to Dh 6 so that both the taxi drivers and public can have sigh of relief.

Prank
Victim
A friend who is an astrologer, calledme over phone and asked me to be careful on wednesday.I also received a call later thatday from another friend inviting me to join him for dinner at a leading hotel.
Ireached the hotel and waited for my friend.Iwaited for more then half an hour and yet there was nosign of him.Ithought he must have been stuck in a traffic jam.
I decided to call him.Are you struck up in the traffic?
What, traffic? he replied.I am at home.”‘
Stunned,i reminded him of the invitation he had extended for dinner.
My friend, have you have forgotten today is April1?
I was initially angry, but realised that my astrologer friend had also cautioned me about wednesday.
Lesson learnt, i took it in the right spirit.

Health Issues

3 April 2009

The Editorial ‘Health-for-All in the UAE’ (KT, March 31) was informative. In spite of being ranked 43rd among 174 developing countries as per the UN Human Development report, UAE’s growth in the health sector is worth a mention.

However, the country has to upgrade to the latest technology and facilities in the field of medicine.
