Knowedge is power.

Vaishali married Rajesh. At the end of reception party, Vaishali’s mother gave her a newly opened Janta Sahakari Bank saving account passbook. Her mother deposited Rs.1000/-. Mother said ‘Vaishali, please take this passbook as a gift from me on Your wedding. Please keep it as a record of Your marriage life. When something great happens in Your married life and/or some great memorable event happens in Your life, deposit some more money in to it. While doing so, please also write it down what it’s all about next to the line as a record. The more memorable event is, deposit more money. i have done the first one for You. Deposit money with Rajesh. When You look back after years, You can know how much happiness both of You had.’ Vaishali was thrilled with this idea and in turn she shared this idea with Rajesh when they left for honeymoon. Both of them thought it was a great idea and were anxious to know when the second deposit can be made. This was what both of them did after honeymoon namely:- •2nd deposit Rs.100, first birthday celebration for Rajesh after marriage •3rd deposit Rs. 100 first birth day celebration of Vaishali after marriage•3rd deposit Rs.300 salary raise for Vaishali•4th deposit Rs.200, vacation trip to Simla, Kulu, Manali, Delhi, Agra, Taj Mahal,•5th deposit Rs.2000 Vaishali got pregnant •6th deposit Rs.1000 Rajesh got promoted as manager•7th deposit Rs. 5000 Vaishali & Rajesh became proud mother & father of daughter•8th deposit Rs. 5000 When they bought big 3 bed room flat in Hinjewadi – IT Park of Pune city.•9th deposit Rs. 5000 When Vaishali left to US for 15 days for on-site software development project•10th deposit Rs. 5000 When Rajesh left for Singapore to attend 4 days business conference and so onHowever after 5 years or so, they started fighting and arguing on small small things. Like who will do cleaning? Who will cook? Who will clean house? Who will feed new born baby? Who will bring grocery? Who will go to bank? Who will pay electricity bill? Who will pay property tax? Who will pay water tax bill? Who will pay mobile bill? and endless work. They didn’t talk much. They regretted that they married. They hated each other. No more love. They started sleeping in different room. Kind of typical scenario now-a-days one can hear, one can watch practically in all TV serials belonging to every Indian language….huh? One fine day Vaishali called her mother. ‘Mom, we can’t stand each other anymore. We agreed to part away (Regular scene now a days in cities like Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, etc. where both {husband & wife} are earning Indian rupees {more than expectations & day to day needs}, no joint family strcture, no parents, no grand parents, etc.). i can’t imagine & believe how the hell i decided to get marry with this pathetic guy? Mother in deep voice said ‘Sure Vaishali. That’s no big deal. Just do whatever You want to do since it is Your life. We have no idea what is the problem, since we are staying far away from Pune and back in Ratnagiri. And if You really can’t stand each other, it is better to part away. But….but….before that do me a small favor. Do You remember saving passbook? That I had given it to You on Your wedding day? First go to Janta Sahakari Bank. Take out all the money both of You deposited on various happy moments. First spend total money. Honestly You shouldn’t keep any record for the failure of Your marriage. Vaishali agreed since she also thought it was true. She went to Janta Sahakari bank. Since it was Monday, there was more crowd. She filled up the form. While she was waiting in line? She looked at the passbook and narration she wrote in Pencil against each deposit made. She looked, and looked, and looked for number of times. Then the memory of all the previous joy and happiness just came up her mind like a 3 hour movie. Suddenly she also visualized Hindi movie by name “Akele Hum Akele Tum”. Her eyes were filled with tears. She instantly left the bank and came back home. In the evening, when Rajesh arrived back home from Hinjewadi, she handed over the passbook to him and requested him to spend total money before getting divorce. Next day Rajesh too went to the bank and came back within 2 hours and gave back the passbook to Vaishali. Vaishali was shocked! She found a new deposit of Rs.5000 again in the passbook. And a line next to the record “This is the day i noticed how much I have loved you all these years. How much happiness You have brought for me and for our sweet home. They hugged each other and cried for 1 hour. They kept the passbook back in to the safe. Post to that Vaishali called up her mother in Ratnagiri. After saying “Hello” she could not talk for few min’s and over the phone she started crying. She informed her mother, both of them deposited another Rs. 5000/- in savings account and she kept the phone down. i don’t know how much they saved till today. But i believe the money did not matter any more after they had gone through all the good years in their life. Morale “When you fall in any way? Don’t see the place where You fell. Instead see the place from where You slipped. Life is all about correcting mistakes and going forward. Life is all about learning new things every day. Knowledge gives power.

Article Published in Gulftoday on 6.Dec.08.U.A.E. Unity is strength

Unity is

strength

I generally receive phone calls from my friends as a matter of courtesy enquiring about my wellbeing. Last week, I received frantic phone calls from my acquaintances enquiring whether I had any relatives or close associates in Mumbai and whether they were safe. Even though I do not have any relatives in Mumbai, I have a couple of friends, who fortunately are safe. I was happy that my friends care for me and my near ones.

I am happy that the people of Mumbai stood together at an hour of crisis, irrespective of their language, colour or region. This solidarity is very crucial at this time of recession and terror threats. After the Mumbai incident, I asked myself how politicians like Raj Thackeray who use divisive politics will react to the fact that the victims belonged to varied communities and regions. Human bond is strong and regions and languages do not matter when it comes to love and affection for fellow beings.

PATRICK MICHAEL’S editorial, It’s Belt-tightening Time (November 21) was meaningful and thought provoking. Today, wherever you go, the only topic being discussed is global recession and job cuts. The incoming US administration is going to face tough time not only locally, but also globally. We may have to forego present comforts in case the present scenario continues. But none of us is prepared for it.

All this has happened with a single man’s wrong calculation. What he feels a bout recession and inflation won’t matter much as he is cushioned against them. But the entire world is suffering. But strangely, no country raised its voice loud enough.

Rail system needs to cover all of the GCC Letter Published in The national,Abudhabi on 7 may.08.Uae This letter is with reference to your story “Capital Plans light rail system” (National, Tuesday, May 6). The Government’s plans to expand the public transport infrastructure is very good news. A highly advanced country such as the UAE should have well developed rail networks in all of its cities. The cities also need a more integrated plan to connect their individual transport systems. A truly comprehensive rails system would not only include all of the emirates, but stretch across all of the other Gulf Cooperation Council countries. This would facilitate the growing demand of GCC residents to travel to each other’s countries, and build trade relationships. The population of the Gulf will explode over the next 20 years, and so will the need for people to travel. This initiative is a positive development, but let us see a much more comprehensive plan put in place.
