Affordable healthcare Letter Published in Khaleejtimes (weekend )on 21.November.08.U.A.E.

THE INTERVIEW with the Sagar Group Vice-Chairman Dr Premchandra Sagar by Pratibha Umashankar (What the Doctor Ordered, November 14), was interesting and informative. I have been witnessing the UAE’s growth in all areas, and now particularly in the healthcare sector. Dr Sagar’s confidence in the region’s future development in healthcare is worth noting. The fact that both clinical and surgery facilities are going to be introduced is an important indication. Dubai is now not only a trading hub for the Middle East and North Africa, but is also poised to become a world-class healthcare hub too. People from this region can avail of sophisticated treatment. The authorities should take care that the facilities are affordable to everyone.

Letter Published in TheNational,Abudhabi.on 20.Nov.08.U.A.E. Taxi service often means waiting for Godot
Recently a friend of mine had a very bitter experience while waiting for a taxi in the Al Gharood Area in Dubai near Citibank. Eight taxis passed him by and none of the drivers came to his rescue. The explanation was that their shift was over.

After waiting for nearly three hours, my friend called a taxi company to send a cab for him. They promised that he would be picked up within 30 minutes.

After waiting for nearly an hour, my friend rang up again. The company agent replied that he was unable to comply with his request for service. The excuse was a broken taxi meter.

My friend’s ordeal was not just an individual case. I’ve had many experiences like this. I request that the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) take action about the endless wait for taxis. A growing country like the UAE should not be losing productivity as its populace waits hours for a cab. Will the RTA address this important issue?

Be careful Letter Published in Gulfnews on 16,November,08. U.A.E.
It was painful to read about the crane that collapsed on Shaikh Zayed Road, in Dubai (”Readers praise Dubai Police response to crane crash”, Gulf News, November 10). Fortunately, this incident occurred early in the morning and there were no casualties. The concerned authorities should monitor contractors periodically and ensure safety is maintained. Motorists should be very careful and keep a watch on both sides of the road while driving.

Cab Article Publishedin Gulftoday on 15.November.08.U.A.E.

shock

A friend wanted to go to his home country to celebrate his son’s first year Diwali festival with his family. On the departure day, he placed a phone request with a taxi company to send a cab at 8pm to his Dubai residence so as to reach Sharjah airport.

The company staff took his residence details and phone number and promised that the taxi will arrive at 8pm. His flight time was 11pm.

My friend anticipated heavy traffic and was worried. Till 8.30pm there was no sign of any cab. My friend rang up the taxi company and was to receive a reply that there was no information regarding his booking.

He explained that somebody had taken his details and promised the cab would arrive at the specific time. The reply from the other end: “Sorry.”

Fortunately, a family friend came to his rescue and took them to the airport. Who’s to be blamed? I got the answer: “Don’t depend on one source, when it comes to beating traffic.”

dreams

I was watching the American election results eagerly on television when the phone bell rang. I reduced the volume and attended the call. That turned out to be a wrong number. I returned to the TV set when the phone went alive again. This time too, it turned out to be a wrong number.

Naturally annoyed, I returned to my seat. Lo and behold! The phone bell rang again. I decided to ignore it. A few minutes later, my mobile started ringing. It turned out to be my daughter from India. She said that she had sent a few dollars and that a relative would drop in any time to pass them on. My wife was thrilled. Watching the American election results, we also got this dollar news.

Next day, my relative arrived. We welcomed him with extra glee and you know the reason. I was wondering how many dollars my daughter had sent. “Here is each six your daughter gave,” my relative passed on a pocket.

What each six!? I asked with curiosity.

He explained that each six of Dollar brand undergarments and banians.

My wife flashed a “You and your dollars” look. It must be the American news influence, I cajoled her.
